Yuan Yuan

Yuan is a filmmaker, artist, and translator born in Wuhan, China. She currently works between LA and Beijing.

Her short film Heading South won Best Student Film at the Directors Guild of America, Palm Springs ShortFest, and Jury Prize at the HKIFF. When Winter Comes, supported by Spike Lee Fund, earned a Special Metion at First International Film Festival.

Currently, Yuan is developing multiple feature projects, selected by Sundance Screenwriters Lab & Directors Labs, Berlinale Talents Tokyo, and won Best Young Talent’s Project at Shanghai International Film Festival.

Yuan holds an MFA in Film Production from NYU Tisch, supported by the Ang Lee Scholarship. Prior to her studies, she gained production experience working with director Wuershan and producer Bill Kong.

As a translator, Yuan interpreted Q&A and interviews for directors including Tsai Ming-liang, Tzu-An Wu, and Chun-Hui Wu. Since college, she has been a translator for YiDianYuan Subtitle Group, contributing to the translation of numerous classic films and TV series.

元圆是电影导演、艺术家及翻译，出生于中国武汉，工作往返于洛杉矶和北京。

她编导的短片《雁南飞》获得了美国导演工会最佳学生短片、棕榈泉国际短片节最佳学生短片，香港国际电影节评审团大奖。2024年，最新短片《长冬》荣获First青年电影展获得First Frame特别提及奖，该片由Spike Lee电影制作基金支持完成。

目前，元圆正在开发多部长片电影项目，入选了美国圣丹斯编剧工作坊、导演工作坊，柏林国际电影节东京天才训练营，并在上海国际电影节创投单元获得了“最佳青年导演项目“奖。

元圆毕业于纽约大学Tisch艺术学院电影制作硕士，李安奖学金获得者，本科就读于上海戏剧学院。留学前，她曾先后任职于乌尔善电影工作室、安乐影片公司，协助制片人江志强开发电影项目，积累了丰富的制作经验。

作为翻译，元圆曾为蔡明亮、吴梓安、吴俊辉等导演担任电影映后座谈与媒体访谈的口译工作。自大学起，她加入了伊甸园字幕组，作为翻译参与了大量的经典电影和美剧的字幕工作。
